You know about the importance of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk and why Russia agreed to it. You know who the Reds, Whites and Greens were in the civil war and what role the Red Army played in this war. You are also aware of the foreign interventions and the motives of the foreign forces. You know what is meant by Red Terror and how Lenin justified it. You are familiar with the term War Communism and can explain the reasons for its introduction as well as the reasons for its failure. You know about The New Economic Policy (NEP) that replaced war communism. You are aware of the changes in society that the Bolshevik rule brought with it (new socialist man, socialist culture, education, role of women to name but a few keywords). You know what Lenin though about the role of the Russian Orthodox Church. You know what the USSR is and how it was organised. You can describe Lenin's legacy.

4. The Soviet Union under Stalin (-1941)
You know how the Soviet Union was organised and what the role of the Communist Party, the Central Committee and the Politburo was in this context. You can explain Stalin's rise to the top. You know what the struggle for power between Stalin and Trotsky was about and how the programmes they advocated differed. You can also explain why Stalin's vision for the future of the USSR prevailed. You know why Stalin pushed the industrialisation so much and what obstacles he had to overcome. You know how Stalin outmanoeuvred his rivals. You know what the „Second Revolution“ or „Revolution From Above“ is. In this context you know terms like five-year plans, collectivisation and forced industrialisation. You know how Stalin justified the forced industrialisation. You are aware of the personal sacrifices people had to make and how the state tried to keep their people in check. You know what consequences the collectivisation of the agriculture had and how the USSR dealt with them. You can assess how successful collectivisation was. You know the different phases of the purges from 1934-1953. You know what the different forms of punishments were. You can explain why those mass murders did not lead to a coup against Stalin. You know the role of show trials and forced labour camps in this context. You can describe the effects of these purges on the society. You know what life was like in the Soviet Union at that time. You can explain the role of the propaganda and personality cult. You know how the Soviet state dealt with art, education, the elite and with women. You know the most important milestones in Stalin's foreign policy from 1919 to WWII.

1. Adolf Hinter - The Early Years (1889-1919)
Generally speaking you have a rough idea of Hilter's early years.

2. The Weimar Republic I (1919-1923)
You know what the November Revolution is. You know about the beginning of the Weimar Republic. You know the problems the young republic was faced with and can explain their respective roles: stab-in-the-back myth, Versailles treaty, political parties, constitution and electoral law, the old elite, reparations, inflation and the free corps to name but a few. You know the different mentalities of the population at that time and their attitude towards the republic (youth movements, students, the superfluous generation, the radical conservatives and women). You know the main philosophy behind the „Blood and Soil“ ideology.

3. Adolf Hitler and the NSDAP (1919-1925)
You now how Hinter become part of the (NS)DAP. You know the political programme of the NSDAP and what they (didn't) believe in. You know what the „völkisch“ movement is and what it stands for. You know about the Munich Putsch and its importance. You know what happened at the trial and during Hitler's captivity and how Hitler managed to take advantage of the putsch as a whole. The know the most important messages/principles that Hitler wrote down in „Mein Kampf“.

4. The Weimar Republic II (1924-1932)
You know about the economic situation in Germany in 1924. You know what strategy the Weimar Republic pursued in its foreign policy and what nationalist parties thought of this strategy. You know what influence the 1920s had on culture (art, literature, media). You can explain the Wall Street Crash of 1929 and its consequences. You know how the countries tried to tackle the Great Depression that followed. You know what impact the Great Depression had on Germany and its political system. You know the role that Hindenburg and Brüning played in destabilising Germany. You know (and can also interpret) the results and the consequences of the 1930 Reichstag elections.

5. The Rise of the Nazi Party (1926-1932)
You know about the reorganisation of the NSDAP in 1926 and the role the SA played in this reorganisation. You know about Adolf Hitler's role as a figurehead and speaker. You know why electoral campaigns came natural to the NSDAP. You know what happened in the Reichstag elections between 1928-1933 and can explain the changes. You know who supported and voted (and who didn't vote) for Hitler and what reasons they all had for their decision (not) to support the NSDAP. You know why Hitler profited from the fear of Bolshevism at that time.

6. The Weimar Republic III (1932-1933)
You know who didn't feel represented by von Papen's „Cabinet of Barons“. You know how von Papen helped the NSDAP during his time as chancellor. You know how Hitler became Reich Chancellor and what role/reason von Papen and some leading figures of the German industry had in helping him. You have thought about the question if Hitler could have been stopped.
